So long as Microsoft don't start writing Office on top of MIL while keeping the unmanaged API undocumented its OK. The shell is considered part of the operating system so can us unpublished APIs for internal operations.
Office should be seperate, if that starts using an API that no one else has access to they could get into trouble again.

The interface enchancements aren't based on Avalon?

I've heard it said that they are based on the Media Integration Layer (MIL) that underlies Avalon.

Actually, within Avalon Property System, DockProperty is an 'attached' dependency property, but LastChildFillProperty is not.

Within CLR, both are public static read-only field.
