Wallpapers - Windows Vista Starter

Windows Vista Starter has a bunch of really great wallpapers that I thought shouldn't be exclusive to countries the World Bank considers poor. So I've put them together into this zip archive for your enjoyment. The Readme.txt file has instructions on where to put them to that they show up in the "Personalization" dialog.

UPDATE: The reason the zip file wouldn't download properly is because my web server has been trying to use HttpCompression to reduce the size of the file being transferred over the wire. The problem is, the file is already compressed, causing the error when you try to open it. For now, I've shut off compression altogether for this section of the site... so the pages may load a bit slower, but at least the file will download. Sorry about that.

    MIkeB: That's because they're made for older/cheaper computers. Starter Edition is not meant for high-end computers.

    If you want to try out Vista Starter just install your normal copy of Vista and when it comes to entering a licence simply don't but instead choose to enter it later. Then you can choose which version of Vista to install and simply choose Starter. Once Vista is installed you can then try it out and keep using it until the Windows Activation time runs out, you won't be able to activate without a licence. But the main thing here is that you can then copy these wallpapers for your own use.

    Nice pics. They are 1024x768. There is a sight that has about 2 million such pictures. However, it is all in the Russian language. The pictures are grouped in categories, and easy to browse. Check out http://www.photosight.ru. I get a lot of my wallpapers from here.

    Are you aware that distributing parts of a Windows OS, even if it´s just bitmaps or TTF fonts, is considered piracy? The copyright covers the WHOLE cd, not just a part. That´s the main difference between Free Software like Linux where you´re free to do anything you want (like you just did with these bitmaps), and proprietary software like Windows where copyright law makes this activity forbidden.
